EatBurger, Skycity Hamilton

SkyCity has had a makeover! There are a few new establishments – a cafe named Coffee Post (which only opens M-F up to 3pm, snore…), a Good George branch, and a new burger place named EatBurger. It’s rare to find a place to eat in Hamilton that is open late at night (and by open I mean you can walk in past 9.30pm and still order food and they still have everything on the menu), so good on EatBurger for filling that much-needed niche.

Their burgers don’t look great in photos, but taste-wise they are pretty good. I had the Fancy Burger, which had aged beef, garlic truffled mushrooms, lettuce, cheese, and truffle mayo. The beef was perfect, blushing inside and tender, the buns were flavoursome, and the mushrooms went really well with everything. The boy had a Gladiator Burger (aged beef, tomato, olives, mozzarella, bacon, salami), and he found it enjoyable, too. The burgers are a bit smaller than the ones at Goneburger and Fergburger, but for me this was a good thing as I could actually finish one! Service was prompt and friendly, and one of the waitresses was really sweet and struck a pose for the camera. :)

My only gripe is… well… I know burgers are far from healthy food, but my burger in particular was excessively oily. As in, the oil soaked through the bottom bun, through the paper wrapping the burger, and onto the table. I love good food even if it’s a bit greasy, but I find this to be unnecessarily so. Oddly enough the boy’s burger was fine, no more oily than the average burger even though it had bacon and mozzarella in it. Don’t know if it was a random occurrence or just the type of burger I ordered, but I’d be sad if that was the case, because the Fancy Burger is great otherwise.

Still, lovely new joint, really hope they do well.
