We’ve been avoiding the Joe’s Garage franchise after a rather underwhelming experience with their mains at the Christchurch branch several years ago; fortunately (for us) we changed our minds and decided to give the Hamilton branch a shot. It was fairly empty on a late Saturday afternoon, but that was probably due to the weather. Good service right off the bat – we were greeted, offered menus, and had our orders taken in no time at all (just the way we like it!).
We put our trust in the Zomato reviews and ordered one pizza and a side of fries to share between us, which turned out to be a great decision. Our half-and-half pizza (New Yorker and Portofino) was excellent – crispy base, generous toppings, and rather noteworthy tomato sauce (house-made I believe). Even the side of chips was good, served with our choice of dip and with the skins on. The pizza was huge, and we are VERY glad that we ordered just one to share.
All in all, an enjoyable meal all around – we’d definitely return, either for another pizza or perhaps to try their rolls. The grunge-chic decor and open kitchen adds to the novelty, as you get to watch your pizza being made and then put in the clay oven.
